About myself:

Hi, my name is Jan Blöthe. Since October 2014, I am working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Geomorphology and Environmental Systems working group at the University of Bonn, Germany. I received my PhD in 2014 from the University of Potsdam, where I worked with Oliver Korup on valley fills and large landslides in the Himalayas.

My main research focus lies on the sediment dynamics in high-mountain environments, including natural hazards and fluvial geomorphology. Using a variety of methods, I am trying to better understand how sediments are produced, delivered to the fluvial domain and then finally transported out of the mountain belt. While my work mainly focused on the Himalayas in the past, I have been starting to work on the wide topic of sediment dynamics in a variety of settings: Rock glacier and landslide dynamics in the arid Central Andes of Argentina (project at University of Bonn, cooperation with IANIGLA, Mendoza, Argentina); The development of outsize fans and dead-ice content in glacial moraines the European Alps (project at University of Bonn and cooperation with University of Vienna, Austria); the distribution of Sackungen in the Tatra Mountains (cooperation with University of Ostrava, Czech Republic); Landslides and sediment transport in southern Germany (project at University of Bonn). In my research, I am mainly using geomorphometric analysis, satellite-based remote sensing, and geochronological dating techniques such as cosmogenic radionuclides and optically stimulated luminescence. Recently, I have gathered some experience on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for the production of high-resolution digital topographic data and geophysical applications, such as electrical resistivity tomography, seismic refraction tomography and ground penetrating radar.
